Sep. 1st, 2011 05:51 pmHawke is a mage from the world of Thedas, but since the use of magic in Thedas relies upon a direct connection to the Fade, the power of Bete Noire will replace the Fade as the source of Hawke’s magic. Tis means Hawke’s spells will come out stronger but more exhausting and harder to control, and the use of them will give Hawke a greater dose of the city’s manipulating nature. Basically, his spells will be, for lack of a better word, tainted by the city’s presence, as well as potentially more addictive. The more influenced he is, the more powerful they would be, but at the cost of his … well, soul. Spells that last for a length of time will be especially dangerous, since they’ll keep him open to the city’s influence for longer.
Because of the way mages in Thedas connect to the Fade, they are highly attractive to demons, as they offer a conduit into the physical world. In Thedas, all demons which are still in the Fade can potentially possess mages. In Bete Noire, demonic characters will be able to sense Hawke's magic, and may potentially be able to influence or confront him on a mental or magical level. His presence in the city would probably feel like mental white noise, and close proximity would let the demon in question sense that Hawke is the source.

For reference, here is a list of the types of magics (fire/ice/lightning etc) which are used in the game and how they affect some of the creatures, but if you're not sure how your character might be affected, please let me know and we can work something out! Otherwise, have a little form to fill out.
